How to get Zao Ropeway

Step-by-step guide to reach Zao Ropeway easily

1. Purchase the "Bus & Ropeway Combination Ticket" at the Yamakobus Yamagata Station Information Center . Payments can be made by cash or credit card.

2. After purchasing the "Bus & Ropeway Combination Ticket", please wait at Yamagata Station Bus Stop No.1. The Yamagata Station – Zao Onsen Line operates on a first-come, first-served basis and does not accept reservations. If the bus is full, boarding may not be possible.

3. Upon arriving at Zao Onsen, exit the bus terminal and turn right. It’s approximately a 10-minute walk to reach the Zao Ropeway.

4. Continue walking down the road until you reach a bridge. Cross the bridge to proceed.

5. Finally, you’ll arrive at the Zao Ropeway. Exchange the ropeway portion of your combination ticket at the counter. Please note that if it’s crowded, you may need to wait several hours to board.

Refunds for unused tickets can be processed at the Yamakobus Yamagata Station Information Center only. Please note that once you have used the bus, refunds are not available.
